Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
228 AM CST Wed Feb 5 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected across West Texas and
Southeast New Mexico through Saturday. Consequent minimum
relative humidity combined with increasing 20-ft westerly
winds beginning this afternoon have prompted a Rangeland Fire
Danger Statement for Southeast New Mexico, the Guadalupe Mountains,
and adjacent areas of West Texas. Similar conditions are expected
Friday and Saturday afternoons. However, higher ERCs will be confined
to the south, and not coincident with elevated fire weather conditions
northwest. In addition, CIPS analogs suggest the threat will be
elevated at worst.

A cold front Saturday night will alleviate concerns as cooler air moves
into the region. Recovery overnight will be poor in the Guadalupe and
Delaware Mountains, as well as the Sacramento Foothills, but moderate
to excellent elsewhere. Recovery Wednesday night will be poor over most
of Southeast New Mexico and areas of West Texas to the south, but
moderate to excellent elsewhere. Relative humidity will bottom
out at 6-40% this afternoon, and 5-25% Thursday.
