Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX

...A RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT /9 PM
MDT/ THIS EVENING FOR 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, RELATIVE
HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF WEST TEXAS...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SATURDAY EVENING FOR 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, RELATIVE
HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF WEST TEXAS...

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated southwesterly 20-ft winds continue this afternoon with
low teens relative humdities across western portions of the
region. High clouds have limited mixing potential somewhat,
though near-critical and critical fire weather is expected to
continue through early evening. Elevated westerly 20-ft winds
return on Saturday, mainly along and west of the Pecos River
where relative humidity falls into the low teens and single digits
once again. Critcal to extreme fire weather is expected to
develop and a Fire Weather Watch has been issued. ERCs continue to
hover around the 70th-89th percentile for much the area.
Overnight recovery will be poor for western portions of the area
with more moderate recovery for eastern portions. Any rainfall is
limited to the eaststern half of the area into early next week.
