Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
214 PM CDT Thu Jul 16 2026
.DISCUSSION...
Scattered clouds and cooler than average highs with medium to
high (45% to 70%) shower/storm chances over eastern parts of the
area late this week and western parts of the area this weekend
maintain ERCs below the 50th percentile. Along with relatively
light 20-ft winds below 20 miles per hour, good to excellent
overnight recovery, and min RH above critical 15%, this keeps fire
weather conditions low. Later in the weekend into early next
week, rain chances decrease and highs warm closer to average for
this time of year, slowly increasing ERCs. However, light 20-ft
winds and min RH staying above critical with good overnight
recovery will continue to keep fire weather conditions low. Fire
starts are still possible from lightning and strong, erratic
winds, but good fuel moisture is likely to limit any spreading of
flames.
