Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
224 AM CDT Sat Aug 29 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Despite an ongoing stretch of hot and mostly dry conditions, fire
weather concerns remain minimal over the next several days. MinRHs
generally remain above 15% through the period (albeit closer to
critical thresholds on the western fringe of the area), along with
light winds. ERCs stay in the 50th to 74th percentile for much of
the region, and above normal temperatures continue through the
period. Storm chances largely diminish this weekend, but low (10-
20%) chances return to the higher terrain next week. As a result
of these factors, the overall fire threat and risk of fire spread
is low, but lightning starts would be possible with any storms
that do develop.
