Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
345 AM CDT Fri Apr 18 2025

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM CDT /8 AM MDT/ THIS
MORNING TO 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING FOR 20-FT WINDS OF
20 MPH OR MORE, RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, AND HIGH TO
VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF WEST
TEXAS...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SATURDAY EVENING FOR 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, RELATIVE
HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF WEST TEXAS...

.DISCUSSION...

20-ft southwesterly winds will remain elevated today as the upper-
level trough approaches, combining with critical relative humidity,
high to very high fire danger, and ERCs 50th percentile or higher
for critical fire wx conditions across Southeast New Mexico and most
of West Texas. All of these factors will result in RFTIs of 4-7
across most of the FWA. Saturday, with the trough still to the
west, the focus will shift to the Davis Mountains/Presidio Valley,
where RFTIs of 7-8, and even isolated 9 are expected. Relative
humidity will bottom out at 6-21% this afternoon, and 4-41%
Saturday. Recovery overnight will be poor to moderate over most
of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.
