Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
148 PM CDT Sat May 24 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather remains possible for Southeast New Mexico
and Far West Texas due to afternoon single digit relative humidity
and ERCs at or above the 75th percentile. This threat will be
mitigated by relatively weak winds, but afternoon winds may peak
around 20 mph or so. Overnight recovery remains poor for western
portions of the area with excellent recovery to the east. A cold
front brings below normal temperatures, above critical relative
humidity, and repeated chances of wetting rains to the region,
limiting fire weather concerns. That said, at least a low risk of
lightning starts over the mountains may remain possible.
