  coverage of triple digit highs. Persistent heat will present an
  increasing risk of heat-related illnesses.

The heat continues to be turned up over the area today with the
Permian Basin and SE New Mexico reaching into the low 100s this
afternoon. Temperatures near 110F will be seen across the low desert
of Big Bend. Overnight lows only dip into the mid to upper 70s for
THursday morning with 60s across the higher elevations. Thursday
afternoon sees temperatures another degree or two higher compared to
today where a few spots look to reach 105F+. Heat advisories may be
needed across a few counties. Rain chances will be near zero for the
short term forecast.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)

The center of an upper ridge glides over our region Thursday
evening, headed toward the Four Corners. Ridging shall overspread
much of the western US and Great Plains through early next week,
leading to hot and mostly dry conditions. Except for highs in the
90s in/near the higher terrain and portions of the Lower Trans
Pecos, triple digit heat is expected across most of the region
through the period. Readings up to 105 degrees are forecast over
portions of the northern Permian Basin and areas along the Pecos
River most afternoons. However, the hottest conditions are
expected along the Rio Grande, especially within the Big Bend,
where highs may reach up to 115 degrees. Temperatures most nights
are progged to cool to the mid to upper 70s. Given several days
of very hot conditions, it`s important to practice heat safety.
Take breaks when needed, stay hydrated, and limit time outdoors
during the hottest parts of the day. In stark contrast to last
week, low (<20%) chances of isolated shower/storm activity remains
confined to areas in the vicinity of the higher terrain during
the Long Term period.
