313 FXUS64 KLZK 211743 AFDLZK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Little Rock AR 1243 PM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 228 AM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026 -A slight cooling of high temperatures from extreme values are expected statewide over the next several days. -POP chances will be present over the next few days for portions of Arkansas, but any rain or storms that materialize will be isolated and not amount to much total rainfall. -Heat safety must still be practiced as temperatures remain across most of the state above average for this time of the year. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 228 AM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026 Currently, as of 2 AM CDT, a stationary boundary remains draped along the I-40 corridor across central Arkansas. This boundary is expected to gradually track southward as a weak cold front into southern Arkansas today. In response, high temperatures across much of the state will experience a very limited form of relief. Instead of widespread 100F to 105F or greater temperatures across a large part of the state, many locations across Arkansas may only reach the upper 90s, possibly ending several streaks statewide of multiple 100 degree or higher days on Friday. This trend is expected to continue over the next several days as high temperatures will still peak well above normal for this time of the year across most of the state, but may struggle to reach 100 degrees in many locations. The trend is the result of northwesterly flow aloft over Arkansas as the upper lvl ridge is expected to remain cemented over the Four Corners region of the CONUS. In response, a series of frontal boundaries are expected to move through the state which will introduce limited increases in chances for POPs, increased cloud cover, and a slight reduction in temperatures overall. A continued pattern of hot and dry conditions are expected to continue overall across the state, but oppressive temperatures, in the the form of extreme high air temperatures are not expected to be near the values experience over the last several days. Unfortunately, heat index values will remain between 105 and 109 degrees across most of central and southern Arkansas prompting the continuation of the Heat Advisory for today. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1239 PM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026 Widespread VFR conditions are expected for the majority of the TAF sites as upper level high pressure will be off to our east. An upper level disturbance may bring some precipitation to the northern terminals late in the period so a tempo group has been introduced. Winds will generally be light and variable. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
