A Fire Danger Statement is in effect for the entire Caprock
Escarpment from 11 AM to 6 PM CST Saturday.
Westerly winds will accelerate to 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45
mph, this afternoon. The highest winds will be on the Caprock, with
a transition to the southwest in the Rolling Plains where a diffuse
surface boundary will be in place. High temperatures will peak in
the middle-upper 60s, with mixing heights peaking below 1.5-km AGL
area-wide. Some locales near the NM state line may observe gusts
near 50 mph, but this should be localized. Minimum RH values will
range from near 25 percent in the far southern TX PH to the middle
teens in the southern South and Rolling Plains. Locally elevated
fire weather conditions will be possible across areas with RH values
less than 20 percent. Winds will diminish near sunset and begin
shifting to the northwest, and eventually to the north during the
predawn hours Sunday as a cold front moves through. RH recovery will
be above 60 percent, with the highest RH in the far southern TX PH.
