.DISCUSSION...
Today will be the hottest day of the week. Temperatures on the
Caprock will range from 105 to 109 degrees. Temperatures off the
Caprock will reach up to 113 degrees. Winds early this morning will
shift to the southwest and increase to 15-20 mph through midday.
Winds will weaken through the later afternoon and become variable in
direction. RH values will reach as low as 12 percent through the
afternoon hours. With breezy winds and low RH values, elevated fire
conditions are expected across the entire forecast area. A Rangeland
Fire Danger Statement is in effect for the far southern Texas
Panhandle, the South Plains, and the Rolling Plains from noon until
8 PM today. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible later this
afternoon and evening, mainly on the Caprock. Can expect some breezy
to gusty outflows and plenty of lightning with these storms.
