The National Weather Service in Lubbock Texas has issued a
* Dust Storm Warning for...
Lubbock County in northwestern Texas...
Western Crosby County in northwestern Texas...
South central Hale County in northwestern Texas...
* Until 300 PM CST.
* At 233 PM CST, a wall of dust was along a line extending from 6
miles east of Anton to 4 miles northwest of Texas Tech University
to near Slide, moving northeast at 55 mph.
HAZARD...Less than a quarter mile visibility with strong wind in
excess of 50 mph.
SOURCE...Public.
IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel.
Loop 289, Interstate 27, and Highway 87 will be affected by
significantly reduced visibilities.
Locations impacted include...
Lubbock, Slaton, Abernathy, Wolfforth, Shallowater, Idalou, Ransom
Canyon, Lubbock South Plains Mall, Lubbock International Airport,
Texas Tech University, Slide, Downtown Lubbock, Woodrow, Reese
Center, New Deal, Buffalo Springs, and Lubbock Science Spectrum.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility
reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If
caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your
foot off the brake.
There is no safe place on a highway when a dust storm hits.
Visibility can be lost immediately, making it difficult or impossible
to slow down and avoid stopped vehicles. Delay travel, or safely exit
the highway before the dust storm arrives.
