Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
335 AM CDT Tue Mar 11 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A cold front is slowly moving southeast into the region this morning and
will be near to just north of the I-70 corridor by noon. North of this front
winds will initially become northwesterly then quickly become northeasterly.
Weak cold air advection will result in high temperatures in this area in
the upper 60s to low 70s. South of the front southwesterly flow will continue
and result in high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Southwesterly
flow south of the front will also result in lower dewpoints and RH values.
Minimum RH values are currently forecast in the 20s south of the front,
while to the north of the front they will be in the 30s due to the slightly
cooler temperatures.

These RH values are slightly higher than yesterday, accounted for by the
weaker wind speeds seen across the region. Sustained wind speeds will
max out at or below 10 kts (11-12 mph) and will keep us largely from
elevated fire danger. However, I cannot rule out a localized area seeing
slightly lower RH values or slightly higher wind speeds and thus tipping
over into elevated fire danger for a few hours this afternoon.

The front will continue to slowly sink southward through the afternoon,
finally stalling across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois by
the early evening. The wind shift discussed previously will follow the
front. Overnight and into tomorrow the front will retreat northward as
a warm front and winds will become southerly to the south of the front.

Wednesday through Friday will be warm with temperatures from the mid 70s
to low 80s across the area. Moisture will begin increasing Thursday into
Friday ahead of the next storm system that will bring windy conditions
(gusts up to 35-40 mph) to the region. Widespread showers and thunderstorms
are expected during the afternoon and evening ahead of an approaching cold
front.
