Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
404 AM CDT Thu Oct 16 2025

Temperatures will peak well above normal today and Friday as
winds become increasingly southerly ahead of an approaching cold
front on Saturday. Today and Friday mixing heights will mix above
1700 feet between 12-1 pm, reaching a maximum height between
3000-5000 ft by 3- 4 pm. This layer will be unstable, allowing
smoke to easily disperse within the mixed layer. Vent rates both
days will be best across central and northeast Missouri where
winds within the mixed layer will be slightly higher than areas
to the east.

RH values both days will reach their minimum in the mid 30s to
40s, with only a 20-30% chance that RH values will fall below 35%
on Friday. Winds will be less than 15 mph both days which will
keep the area free of critical fire danger.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through
the region on Saturday ahead of a cold front that will bring
elevated winds and cooler temperatures to the region. There is a
65% chance that 0.5" rain will fall across the area, with 20-30%
chance for at least 1.00". Where thunderstorms persist rainfall
amounts will be higher. This rain is expected to help ongoing
drought conditions, but will not get rid of the drought entirely.
