Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
140 PM CST Sat Nov 8 2025

A weather system will move across northern Missouri and into
central and northern Illinois today, bringing chance for rain to
areas along and north of I-70. Rain will be light, the best
chance for rain will be across far northeast Missouri and
west-central Illinois where there is a 70% chance for more than
0.10" of rain and a 40% chance for more than 0.25" of rain.
Further south rainfall will be limited with most areas seeing
less than 0.10" of rain. RH values will reach their minimums this
afternoon, south of I-70 minimum RH values will be in the 30s to
low 40s, while to the north they will be much higher (upper 40s
to 80s) due to the increased moisture from the weather system.
Mixing ahead of this system will not be very deep, only extending
up to 1500-2000 feet. Southwesterly winds will become
west-northwesterly and increase in speed late this afternoon and
into the evening behind the system. Central Missouri will be
impacted by these elevated winds first late this afternoon,
before they move east across the area this evening. Winds will
remain elevated overnight and through the day Sunday. Saturday
evening through Sunday afternoon sustained winds will peak in the
mid to upper teens and gusts will peak in the upper 20s. After
sunset on Sunday winds will start to diminish in speed, but will
restrengthen across portions of Illinois Monday afternoon.

We are continuing to monitor the potential for elevated fire
danger on Tuesday as strong, low-level southwesterly winds will
bring relatively warmer temperatures and drier RH values to
portions of central, east-central, and southeast Missouri as well
as southwest Illinois. While temperatures will start Tuesday in
the upper teens to low 20s, this strong southwesterly wind is
expected to allow the area to warm up to near normal by
mid-afternoon. Mixing is currently expected to extend up to
3000-4000 feet Tuesday afternoon, which may keep the strongest
winds aloft from mixing down to the surface. But sustained winds
are still expected to be able to peak in the teens with the
potential for gusts to peak in the upper 20s to 30s. Differences
in how warm we get and how high the mixing height is will impact
our potential for elevated fire danger/Red Flag criteria. As it
stands, these factors are currently limiting enough to lean us
towards elevated fire danger over Red Flag.
