The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Monroe County in southwestern Illinois...
  Northern Jefferson County in east central Missouri...

* Until 830 AM CDT.

* At 532 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain
  have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Arnold, Festus, Eureka, Waterloo, Columbia, Pevely, Crystal City,
  Red Bud, Herculaneum, Hillsboro, Byrnes Mill, Barnhart, Antonia,
  Oakville, Mehlville, Murphy, High Ridge, Cedar Hill, Valmeyer and
  Cedar Hill Lakes.

This includes the following State Parks...
Mastodon Historic Site, Sandy Creek Covered Bridge Historic Site and
Gov. Dunklin`s Grave Historic Site.

This includes Interstate 55 in Missouri between exits 174 and 191.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
