...CIVIL EMERGENCY MESSAGE (CEM) TEST SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY,
SEPTEMBER 21...

In support of National Preparedness Month, the Los Angeles County
Office of Emergency Management will originate a test of the Civil
Emergency Message (CEM) system, in coordination with the National
Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard, on Monday, September 21st at
10:25 a.m. PDT.

THIS IS ONLY A TEST. No action is required by the public.

Please be advised that NOAA Weather Radios will be activated during
this exercise. The test will trigger the alert tones and visual
indicators on all appropriately tuned NOAA Weather Radios, including
those equipped with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology.

Why We Are Testing:

September is National Preparedness Month, an annual initiative to
remind individuals, families, and businesses to prepare for natural
disasters and emergencies. Regular testing of the CEM system ensures
that critical mass-communication infrastructure is functioning
properly and is ready to deploy when a real emergency strikes.

This test provides an excellent opportunity for schools, businesses,
and residents to:

* Ensure your NOAA Weather Radio is turned on, tuned to the correct
  local frequency, and equipped with fresh backup batteries.

* Review and practice your household, school, or workplace emergency
  action plans.

* Verify that you have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings
  (e.g., local alerts, mobile apps, and Wireless Emergency Alerts).

In the event of actual severe weather or another significant
emergency in the area on the morning of Monday, September 21st, this
test will be postponed to a later date to avoid any confusion with
live, life-saving information.
