Issued by NWS Los Angeles, CA
040 FNUS56 KLOX 012215 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 315 PM PDT Tue Jul 1 2025 ...SEASONABLY ELEVATED RISK OF GRASS FIRES ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS THROUGH AT LEAST MONDAY DUE TO GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS... ..INCREASING CONFIDENCE OF EXTENDED HEAT WAVE WITH WIDESPREAD ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS NEXT TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY (JULY 8-11) ALONG WITH SMALL RISK OF MOUNTAIN/DESERT MONSOONAL THUNDERSTORMS... .DISCUSSION... An approaching upper level trough will bring a gradual deepening of the marine layer into Wednesday, with low clouds and fog likely spreading into portions of the valleys. The upper level trough will also interact with some mid level moisture today to bring some afternoon cloud build-ups over the local mountains. While this increased marine layer influence will bring slight cooling to coasts and valleys, there will be little change in warm temperatures across the interior above the marine layer, with highs 88 to 98 degrees common today through Monday. Humidities will fall to between 7 and 20 percent each day across the interior. Southwest to northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph will be common across the interior through Monday, with isolated gusts as high as 40 mph across the Antelope Valley foothills. The gusty onshore winds in combination with the seasonably warm and dry conditions will continue to bring an elevated risk of grass fires across the interior through Sunday, especially in the Antelope Valley and adjacent foothills, as well as the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County where onshore winds will be enhanced the next few days. From Tuesday through Friday of next week (July 8- July 11), there is increasing confidence for a long duration heat wave across the interior with widespread triple digit heat likely across the valleys, lower mountains, and deserts. With warm overnight lows expected, this will add to the heat risk. There will likely be widespread elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions during this period across the valleys, mountains, and deserts due to the hot temperatures and low humidities near the surface along with some locally gusty winds. In addition, the influx of mid level monsoonal moisture with associated instability could bring the potential for plume dominated fire growth across the interior, especially in the mountains. There is a slight risk (10 percent chance) of monsoonal thunderstorms across the mountains and deserts Tuesday through Friday.
