...TROPICAL SYSTEM TO IMPACT THE AREA THROUGH LABOR DAY WEEKEND WITH
DANGEROUS SURF/RIP CURRENTS, COASTAL FLOODING, AND SHOWERS...
...HOT AND MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS WITH ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
RETURNING TO REGION WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...
.DISCUSSION...
A significant moisture surge is taking place today for areas south of
Point Conception as remnants from Tropical Cyclone Marie filter into the
area. Most of the rain today will be focused across LA and Ventura
counties, with generally light to moderate intensity. However, the atmosphere
is expected to destabilize this afternoon, leading to a 5 to 15 percent chance
of thunderstorms or brief heavier showers. Rainfall amounts and intensities
have trended slightly higher today, with most areas of LA county now
expecting to receive between 0.25 and 1.00 inches, except locally higher
amounts near the San Gabriel mountains and foothills. Localized rainfall rates
between 0.25 and 0.50 inches per hour are possible through the afternoon
which could result in localized roadway flooding. In addition, high surf,
dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding will remain across south facing
beaches through the Labor Day weekend. There will still be chance of residual
light showers Monday and Tuesday, mainly in the mountains. From Wednesday
through Friday, there will likely be a return of hot temperatures and
moderately dry conditions which will lead to widespread elevated fire
weather conditions.
