Issued by NWS Los Angeles, CA
417 FNUS56 KLOX 302222 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 322 PM PDT Mon Jun 30 2025 ...SEASONABLY ELEVATED RISK OF GRASS FIRES ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS THROUGH AT LEAST SUNDAY DUE TO GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS... ..POTENTIAL FOR BUILDING HEAT WITH MID LEVEL MONSOONAL MOISTURE/INSTABILITY WITH INCREASED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS NEXT TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY (JULY 8- JULY 11) .DISCUSSION... An approaching upper level trough will bring a gradual deepening of the marine layer Tuesday into Wednesday, with low clouds and fog likely spreading into portions of the valleys. While this increased marine layer influence will bring some cooling to coasts and valleys, there will be little change in temperatures across the interior above the marine layer, with highs 88 to 98 degrees common today all the way through Sunday. Humidities will fall to between 8 and 20 percent each day across the interior, with poor overnight recoveries tonight across the San Gabriels and interior foothills. Southwest to northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph will be common across the interior through Sunday, with isolated gusts as high as 40 mph across the Antelope Valley foothills. The gusty onshore winds in combination with the seasonably warm and dry conditions will continue to bring an elevated risk of grass fires across the interior through Sunday, especially in the Antelope Valley and adjacent foothills. From Tuesday through Friday of next week (July 8- July 11), there is the potential for building heat with triple digit heat and enhanced fire weather conditions across portions of the interior (possibly expanding into the coastal valleys). In addition, there is the potential for the influx of the first mid level monsoonal moisture/instability of the summer season. There is a slight risk (10 percent chance) of thunderstorms across the mountains and deserts sometime between Tuesday and Friday.
