Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
341 PM PDT Tue Sep 8 2026

...TROPICAL SYSTEM CONTINUES TO IMPACT THE AREA TODAY WITH DANGEROUS
SURF/RIP CURRENTS, COASTAL FLOODING, AND SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS...

...HOT CONDITIONS WITH LOCAL ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS RETURNING
TO REGION TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...

...HAZARDOUSLY HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS EXPECTED THROUGH AT LEAST THURSDAY...

.DISCUSSION...
Lingering tropical moisture from Marie will bring a small chance of
showers and thunderstorms to all areas today, and the mountains of Los
Angeles and Ventura Counties tomorrow. Rainfall amounts will be quite
variable due to the showery nature of the precipitation. Dry lighting
(particularly for northern areas that did not see much rain over the past
couple days) and gusty winds will be the main fire weather concern with
storms. In addition, high surf, dangerous rip currents and coastal
flooding will remain across south facing beaches through today, followed
by elevated rip current and minor coastal flooding through Thursday.

Today through at least Thursday, there will be a return of hot
temperatures to the region, with peak heat on Wednesday when many coastal
and valley areas will range between 90 and 105 degrees. Humidity will add
to the heat discomfort for areas south of Point Conception while
moderately dry conditions north of Point Conception combined with the heat
will bring locally elevated fire weather conditions in this area. Heat
Advisories are in effect for the coasts and coastal valleys of Los Angeles
County today. EXTREME HEAT WARNINGS have been issued for Wednesday
through Thursday to include all coasts and valleys of Los Angeles and
Ventura Counties, as well as all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara
Counties.

As for winds, northerly flow is likely for select areas Wednesday morning
including the Santa Lucias (10 to 20 mph gusts to 35 mph) and the western
San Gabriel Mountains (5 to 10 mph with gusts to 15 mph). Sundowner Winds
of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph, and humidity falling to 15 to
25 percent for southwestern Santa Barbara county Thursday night and
possibly Friday night. A couple of hours of brief critical fire weather
conditions will be possible.

On Friday, highs are expected to cool at least 4-8 degrees for all areas
which should greatly limit any concerning heat risk across the area. of
Los Angeles County. There is a good chance that heat products on Wednesday
and Thursday will be upgraded to Extreme Heat Warnings shorty.
