596 FNUS56 KLOX 021634 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 934 AM PDT Sat Aug 2 2025 ...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER FOR SOUTHWEST SANTA BARBARA AND INTERIOR AREAS THIS WEEKEND... ...BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND FOR INTERIOR MOUNTAINS ESPECIALLY NEAR THE I-5 CORRIDOR... .DISCUSSION... Elevated fire weather conditions will continue this weekend for interior areas including the Antelope Valley and foothills due to a warming and drying trend, along with gusty onshore winds. High temperatures across the interior this weekend will range between 90 and 100 degrees with humidity values falling to between 7 and 20 percent. There will be enhanced northwest winds across the interior mountains of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, extending into the I-5 corridor at times with gusts in the 20 to 35 mph range, bringing the threat of brief critical fire weather conditions. There will also be elevated fire weather conditions each afternoon and evening through Monday for southwest Santa Barbara county due to gusty sundowner winds with warm and dry conditions. The greatest concern will be late Sunday afternoon through evening when sundowner winds will likely be strongest and most widespread. During this time, wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph will be likely from Gaviota to San Marcos Pass, and 25 to 40 mph Sunday night extending eastward into the eastern Santa Ynez Range, especially near Montecito Hills. Humidity values will be falling to between 20 and 35 percent in the sundowner wind prone areas, while temperatures climb to between 80 and 90 degrees, warmest and driest on Sunday. For the Gifford Fire, a warming and drying trend this weekend will continue to bring the high likelihood of continue plume dominated fire behavior, especially in the afternoon hours when mixing heights climb to between 8000 and 10,000 feet. High temperatures will be climbing into the mid to upper 90s each afternoon, while humidities fall into the teens. Afternoon onshore winds will have a more northwesterly wind direction this weekend, with gusts of 15 to 25 mph expected. Outlook: Moderate risk for a heatwave roughly Wednesday-Sunday (8/6-8/10).
