Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Chicago IL
254 PM CDT Thu Jul 10 2025

...Torrential rain producing storms may lead to instances of
localized flooding tonight and on Friday...

Waves of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across
portions of northern Illinois and possibly far northwest Indiana
tonight. Heavy rainfall rates of up to two inches per hour will be
possible with these storms as they shift eastward. Rainfall
amounts of this magnitude may cause instances of flash flooding,
along with significant rises on area streams and rivers, some of
which could reach or exceed flood stage.

This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts
are possible, but not yet certain, particularly for areas near and
north of I-80. Persons with interests along area streams and
rivers should closely monitor the latest forecasts.

A Flood Watch may be needed if confidence continues to increase
in which areas of northern IL have the highest threat of repeated
instances of heavy rainfall tonight and on Friday.
