417 FXUS63 KLMK 260526 AFDLMK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Louisville KY 126 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 ...Updated Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... * Heat Advisory this afternoon through Sunday evening over all of southern Indiana and part of central Kentucky * Mainly dry conditions continue with isolated afternoon/evening convection possible. * Heat and humidity continue into next week, but a cool down is expected after mid-week and into next weekend. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/... Issued at 315 PM EDT Fri Jul 25 2025 Afternoon Cu field is in full swing across the region this afternoon. Temperatures were in the upper 80s and lower 90s. With dewpoints in the lower-middle 70s, afternoon heat index readings were in the upper 90s to the lower 100s. Area radars show a few scattered showers and storms going up, mainly west of I-65 and south of the WK Parkway. A few other storms were located down across the Lake Cumberland region. For the remainder of the afternoon, warm and humid conditions will continue across the region with afternoon highs topping out in the lower 90s. For this evening and overnight, expect Cu field to mix out and isolated/scattered convection to diminish with the loss of heating around sunset. Some convection may persist a little longer across our northern CWA across southern IN if convective outflows propagate southward and fire off additional convection. Lows tonight will be in the low-mid 70s. For Saturday and Sunday, the upper level ridge over the southeast US will retrograde to the west and start to amplify a bit. This should lead to slightly warmer temperatures and along with continued high humidity across the region. Scattered showers/storms will be possible across southern IN and Ohio tomorrow and again Sunday, so we`ll keep chance PoPs going across the I-64 corridor and points north. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 90s with heat indices warming into 100-105 range from about US 27/127 and points westward. Given that afternoon heat indices will in the 100-105 degree range each afternoon, have coordinated with surrounding offices to extend the Heat Advisory through Sunday evening. && .LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 315 PM EDT Fri Jul 25 2025 Moving into next week, mid-level ridge over the southeast will continue to retrograde westward into the Plains. This will keep hot and humid conditions in place across the Ohio Valley thorugh about Wednesday. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 90s with afternoon heat index readings rising over 100. Isolated to scattered convection will be possible during the period, but most locations will remain mostly dry. By midweek, the upper level ridge axis will be to our west and it will continue to build northward into the inter-mountain west. As this occurs, synoptic scale troughing will be found across the Ohio Valley and the eastern US. A cold front will push into the region on Wednesday bringing at least scattered showers and storms. The front will slowly push south of the region by late Thursday with drier and much less humid conditions arriving for Friday and into next weekend. Look for highs to drop back in the upper 80s on Thursday with low- mid 80s by Friday and into Saturday. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 126 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 VFR conditions are expected through most of the period. The only threat to this will be an increased likelihood of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon/evening. Outside of that, expect cu this afternoon with southwest winds reaching to around 10 knots. && .LMK WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
