OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
257 PM CDT Thu Jul 23 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Light and variable winds are expected through tonight as high
pressure around 30.1 inches builds across the Lake. Southerly
winds develop into Friday as high pressure moves into the
northeastern United States. A 29.5 inch low pressure system will
move quickly from the Canadian Great Plains toward Quebec Friday
through Saturday, maintaining south to southwest winds. Southerly
gusts up to 30 kt are expected over the north half.

The low will pull a cold front into the western Great Lakes on
Saturday, with the boundary slowly advancing south across the
waters Saturday night. This will result in thunderstorm chances
across the northern two-thirds. The front then becomes stationary
through the middle of next week, with switches between northerly
and southern winds at times. Additional rounds of storms are
possible, and some may become severe.
