OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
856 AM CDT Fri Apr 24 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Areas of fog will continue over the lake today due to relatively
mild and moist air flowing over the cold lake. Modest south to
southeast winds will persist through this morning as low pressure
around 29.6 inches moves eastward through northern Wisconsin. A
period of gusty easterly winds is expected across the northern
tip of the lake through this afternoon. A few gales are expected
in this region through the morning. Low pressure will push
eastward this afternoon into tonight, bringing a cold front and
shifting winds to northwest by late evening. A few thunderstorms
are expected ahead of and along this front, but severe weather is
not anticipated at this time.

Light to breezy northerly winds are expected Saturday as high
pressure builds into Ontario, shifting to become southeasterly and
increasing Sunday night into Monday as low pressure around 29.4
inches tracks northeastward through the central Great Plains and
into Minnesota. Low pressure may track over northern Lake
Michigan into Tuesday morning, with winds becoming westerly as low
pressure exits to the east.
