.DISCUSSION...
(This afternoon through next Saturday)

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A shortwave trough is still on track to
bring widespread flurries and snow across the coverage area
through tomorrow. Accumulations have contracted slightly since the
previous forecast, with serious accumulations (4-8 inches)
limited to mountains in Elko and White Pine counties, up to an
inch on mountain passes, and a trace to half an inch in valleys.
Snow is mainly expected during the overnight and early morning
hours, but may linger in portions of eastern Nevada through the
afternoon. Temperatures behind this system will be noticeably
colder, with highs in the 30s to low 40s and overnight lows
dropping into the teens for tomorrow night. Some of the coldest
valleys may even reach single digits. Winds are also expected to
pick up, gusting 20-25 mph on Sunday. Cold conditions continue
for Monday with highs remaining in the 30s and 40s, but overnight
lows will return to the teens and 20s.

A second shortwave is expected Tuesday and Tuesday night, bringing
snow showers to northern Nevada, with flurries possible in central
Nevada. This system looks much drier than the weekend one, with
only a trace expected for valleys and passes and a maximum
accumulation of about five inches in the Jarbidge Wilderness.
Daytime temperatures behind the system will be in the 30s and low
40s for Wednesday and Thursday. Long range guidance shows upper
ridging building for Friday and Saturday, which would allow
temperatures to begin to climb again, allowing a few areas to
reach the low 50s by next Saturday.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High confidence for snow and
much cooler conditions tonight and tomorrow, however there is
still a chance for snow totals to increase as the low confidence
solution shows totals more in line with the previous forecast.
Confidence is also high in cold continuing through the early week.
The second storm system remains at moderate confidence due to
questions of moisture availability and areal coverage. Moderate
confidence for ridging to follow the trough but details will
likely depend on how the second shortwave develops.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions expected at all sites through the next
12 to 18 hours. An incoming storm system from the north will be
bringing increasing chances for -SHSN across all sites except KTPH
Sunday morning with reductions to vsby and cigs as a result. Winds
will also increase NW10-15G25KT during the late morning and
afternoon on Sunday. AMD NOT SKED continues for KTPH due to comms
issues.
