Updated at 1129 AM PST Tue Dec 2 2025 * A storm system is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, with snowfall mainly confined to mountains of Elko County * Another very cold morning expected for Thursday * Light rain/snow showers are possible across Northern Nevada Friday through Sunday && .DISCUSSION... (This afternoon through next Tuesday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A large upper level trough over the northern Rockies is pushing a short wave across Nevada this afternoon. The associated boundary pushes through this evening keeping temperatures colder across the region for the next couple of days. Light rain and snow showers will persist through the evening over mainly Elko county. A shift to the eastern border for precipitation chances occurs by Wednesday morning. The general pattern over the western CONUS, however, is being dictated by the well-entrenched Pacific High over the ocean that keeps northerly flow aloft over the region through the week. A weak shortwave will carry sufficient moisture into the northern portion of the Silver State on Thursday. Enough forcing associated with the system will create light rain and mountain snow activity starting late Thursday night. This slow moving feature will persist through the weekend. Current guidance shows best probabilities (~80%) for 24-hr snowfall reside in the Jarbidge Wilderness Area and elevations along the northern corridors of SR-225 and US-93. The bulk of this precipitation looks to fall on Saturday. Any precipitation that falls in the valleys will be rain shower activity as more zonal flow in the northern flank of the persistent high will raise afternoon high temperatures this weekend back into the 50s. Beyond the weekend the next organized trough and storm system is shaping up for early next week. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Confidence exists in snow shower activity over Elko County through Tuesday evening as well as colder temperatures for the region behind the associated boundary passing through tonight. Models continue to agree on a system bringing precipitation to the region Friday through Sunday. No wholesale change to grids is needed at this time. && .AVIATION...
