CHARLES AND NORTHWESTERN JEFFERSON PARISHES THROUGH 500 PM CDT ... At 432 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas near St. Rose, or near Metairie, moving north at 5 mph. HAZARD...Waterspouts, winds in excess of 40 to 50 mph, and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... New Orleans Armstrong Airport, Metairie, and River Ridge. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 215 and 226. Interstate 310 near mile marker 1. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle.
