Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S MS and SE LA
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
122 PM CDT Wed Aug 12 2026

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure will dominate the region through the forecast
period, and with that look for the heat to build and the rain
chances to continue to drop. Isolated storms are still possible
today but after today it may be next week before we see another
storm in the area. As for specific fire weather concerns through
the end of the workweek, winds will be light and variable to calm
overnight, and then winds around 5-10 kts coming out of the
southwest with some variability to southeast as the seabreeze
develops. Humidity values will be of no concern the next few days
generally remaining in the 40-60% range but by Friday and into
next weekend as we continue to dry out and heat up min rh values
will start to drop into the 30s across inland areas. The rapid
lack of rain over the last month and above to well above normal
temps we have been seeing is quickly leading to drought concerns
that may become problematic for fire weather concern in the next
few weeks.
