Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S MS and SE LA
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
537 PM CDT Sun May 31 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A more typical Summer pattern will be in place through Tuesday
with prevailing southerly winds of 5 to 10 mph and minimum RH
values of 50 to 60 percent in the afternoon hours. Each night
will see some patchy light fog development over more inland areas
of southeast Louisiana including the Northshore and portions of
southwest and coastal Mississippi. In the afternoon hours, widely
scattered showers and thunderstorms will form as temperatures
climb into the lower 90s. Heat index values will also be high
today through Tuesday with heat index readings of 100 to
105 degrees expected. A backdoor front will slip through the
region Tuesday night into . Wednesday. Not much change other than
a wind shift to the north- northeast and slightly cooler
temperatures is expected after this front moves through. This
front will wash out on Thursday and winds will shift back to the
southeast as a low pressure system starts to form in the southern
Gulf. This low will bring increasing humidity and higher rain
chances back to the area by next weekend.
