Overall ice coverage across Lakes Superior, Michigan, and Huron is below normal for mid February. Ice coverage on Lake Erie continues to be well above normal as ice coverage remains between 85- 95%. A mix of medium to thick lake ice is present across the Straits of Mackinac, Green Bay, and Saginaw Bay with generally new to thin lake ice present along shorelines. Current ice coverage across all Great Lakes is roughly 26 percent. Much of the region should remain below freezing through this week with a cooler air mass approaching the northern Great Lakes by mid- week. Multiple systems will enter the Ohio Valley region from the Great Plains through this week which will keep the colder air mass well north of the southern Great Lakes. Moderate ice coverage growth is expected through this week.
