At 649 PM CDT, Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain in Rayne. Between 3 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...NWS Employees and Emergency Management have reported numerous flooded roadways that have become impassable. Additionally, water has flooded drainage ditches and low lying areas rising toward business and residential structures. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Crowley, Scott, Rayne, Duson, Mire, Lyons Point and Estherwood. Do not attempt to travel unless seeking higher ground. Even when rainfall slows or ceases, water levels may continue to rise. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Stay away or be swept away.
