Expect hot and humid conditions each day; heat indices in the 102 to 106F range. - Ridging moves in overhead Sunday allowing for fewer storms in the region. The high moves off to the northeast during the week with scattered daily afternoon thunderstorms expected. - The Labor Day Holiday will be typical of the Gulf Coast summer: scattered afternoon showers and storms with highs in the low to mid 90s and heat indices topping out around 106F. - For those with outdoor holiday activities, plan accordingly for the warmth and afternoon storms. Lightning can strike 10 to 15 miles away or more from storms. Prepare to move plans indoors when storms develop. && .DISCUSSION... (Today through Saturday) Issued at 1207 AM CDT Sun Sep 6 2026 Widespread showers and heavy rainfall dropped some much needed rainfall area-wide Saturday. While this event alone won`t be the needed amount to break the drought, it is a start. This ground water combined with the very tropical airmass which arrived today also combined with upper high pressure ridging in tonight has generated some radiational ground fog. Not anticipating a dense fog event, but those out early in the morning may run into some shallow pockets of light to dense fog. Expect conditions to improve with sunrise. Upper ridge will keep us largely quiet today with only the immediate coastline possible to see diurnal convection. Anything that does develop will move offshore on northerly anticyclonic winds aloft. Widespread cloud cover is anticipated within the moist conditions which should help keep temps in check. This surface moisture will remain in place even as the upper high moves further inland Monday and this week. This loss of subsidence combined with the sfc moisture will open the door for daily rain and storm chances, so this week should be pretty climatologically normal. Scattered storms and their resulting clouds/rain keeping highs in the 90s. Monday is the Labor Day Holiday which means outdoor activities! For those with outdoor holiday plans, plan accordingly for summertime heat and afternoon storms. Lightning can strike 10 to 15 miles or further from storms. Prepare to move plans indoors when storms develop. Heat indices will range from 102 to 106F, which is enough to be uncomfortable for those not acclimated and potentially dangerous for those who aren`t. No Heat Advisory is expected. It will take several days for this airmass to moderate with the Texas EML, so expect it to be late this week before we achieve effective daytime mixing to help with afternoon temps! 11/Calhoun && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1207 AM CDT Sun Sep 6 2026 Heavy rainfall occurred across all of central and south Louisiana Saturday afternoon. Cloud cover has largely cleared out and with high pressure ridging into northwest LA, the calm conditions have allowed for areas of ground fog to develop. Visibilities of 2 to 4 miles are expected, but isolated patches of dense fog will be possible. Where there is fog, though, it should be rather shallow in nature. Fog conditions will dissipate with sunrise and only VFR fair- weather cumulus is anticipated across terminals during the day. There is some guidance which develops an area of showers offshore near BPT and LCH from 08 to 10Z, which may result in isolated impacts for a brief AM period. If these develop, they should move south away from terminals. An area of diurnal convection is likely along the immediate coastline, away from ridge influence and along the daytime land differential heat boundary. Northerly flow should push any developing cells offshore. An afternoon cell may be able to push inland to near coastal terminals. Any activity will dissipate with sundown and calm conditions return. 11/Calhoun && .MARINE... Issued at 1207 AM CDT Sun Sep 6 2026 Low onshore winds and seas can be expected over the period as weak, broad high pressure sits just inland. A tropical airmass in place combined with a series of weak waves moving east to west over the north Gulf will bring about daily shower and thunderstorm chances. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1207 AM CDT Sun Sep 6 2026 High pressure ridges into northwest Louisiana overnight and into today halting most, if not all, rain chances. The immediate coastline may see a brief storm this afternoon before it pushes offshore on weak northerly winds aloft. Upper high pressure moves inland over the week, opening the door to daily scattered showers and thunderstorms within the tropical moisture settled in over the region. Daily cloud cover will keep temps in the climatologically normal range. && .LCH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... LA...None. TX...None. GM...None. && $$ PUBLIC/FIRE/MARINE...11 AVIATION...11
