...NWS Damage Survey for 05/18/2025 Hayes and Lincoln Counties
Tornado Event...

A powerful supercell developed in far west central Kansas during
the afternoon hours on May 18, 2025 and tracked north into
southwest Nebraska. The supercell spawned several tornadoes before
crossing into south central Hayes County. As the supercell
continued to the north northeast, a tornado developed west of the
community of Hayes Center in Hayes County. The tornado grew quite
wide, eclipsing a half mile in width at times as it tracked
northward across central Hayes County into far south central
Lincoln County. The tornado lifted south of the community of
Dickens, but the supercell continued north to the city of North
Platte.

A strong low pressure system and a lifting warm front were
responsible for the supercell and subsequent tornado. Additional
supercells formed during the evening hours across west central
Nebraska, though the environment was less favorable for
supercellular tornado development across the Sandhills and north
central Nebraska.
