A powerful supercell developed in far west central Kansas during the afternoon hours on May 18, 2025 and tracked north into southwest Nebraska. The supercell spawned several tornadoes before crossing into south central Hayes County. As the supercell continued to the north northeast, a tornado developed west of the community of Hayes Center in Hayes County. The tornado grew quite wide, eclipsing a half mile in width at times as it tracked northward across central Hayes County into far south central Lincoln County. The tornado lifted south of the community of Dickens, but the supercell continued north to the city of North Platte. A strong low pressure system and a lifting warm front were responsible for the supercell and subsequent tornado. Additional supercells formed during the evening hours across west central Nebraska, though the environment was less favorable for supercellular tornado development across the Sandhills and north central Nebraska. .Hayes County Tornado... Additionally, the tornado move through two farmsteads. Numerous windows were knocked out in both homes and cars. The tornado moved through a large bovine operation and knocked out fencing and caused damage to outbuildings.
