...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...

The National Weather Service in North Platte, Nebraska, will be
conducting a required scheduled update to our Advanced Weather
Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) from 0800 on Tuesday May 6,
2025, through approximately 1700 on Thursday May 8, 2025. The NWS
uses the AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather
and water information, and to send life-saving information, such
as weather and water warnings, to the public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be
conducted by our service back-up office in Hastings, Nebraska to
minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our
core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings
and advisories are expected during this period. However, limited
impacts will occur to the following services:

NOAA weather transmitters: All NOAA weather transmitters
maintained by NWS North Platte will be off the air through the
time of the install. This includes the following transmitters in
Nebraska: Sutherland, Bassett, Merna, Merriman, Valentine, Mullen,
and Oshkosh.

The KLNX radar will remain operational and its products will
continue to be distributed as normal. The NWS North Platte office
will remain open and staffed at all hours throughout this update
period to answer public and partner phone calls, and additional
functions that can be completed while our AWIPS is updated.
