.DISCUSSION...
Near critical to critical fire weather conditions are expected to
persist this afternoon across the eastern Panhandle and western
Sandhills, largely driven by the gusty southerly to southeasterly
winds. Overnight, humidity is expected to recover around 60 to 70
percent across the eastern Panhandle, with recovery around 80
percent across the western Sandhills. Winds are expected to remain
gusty out of the south through the overnight hours, with gusts of
30 to 35 mph across the western Sandhills.
Sunday, additional near critical to critical fire weather concerns
will be possible again across the eastern Panhandle and western
Sandhills. While humidity is expected to remain above critical
fire weather thresholds, generally 20 to 25 percent, above average
high temperatures and gusty southerly winds are expected, which
will be the main drivers behind fire weather concerns. By Sunday
evening, showers and thunderstorms are possible across northwest
Nebraska, with a risk for some storms to be severe.
Fire weather concerns briefly decrease on Monday, with cooler
temperatures and a greater chance for showers and thunderstorms.
However, by Tuesday, near daily fire weather concerns are expected
through late week. Highs on Tuesday push into the upper 90s and
potentially the lower 100s, with low humidity and gusty winds.
While temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler on
Wednesday, low humidity and gusty winds are again expected.
Temperatures are expected to return to slightly above seasonal
late week, however, lower humidity and gusty winds may still
persist. Widespread chances for rain also appear low across the
region after storms exit the region Monday night into early
Tuesday morning.
