.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns remain low over the next several days,
largely driven by fresh snow cover and below average temperatures.
The frigid temperatures should help to maintain the snow cover
over the next several days. Friday afternoon may see temperatures
above freezing, into the 40s, across most of the region, which
will lead to some melting of the snow pack. With this recent snow
and melting, relative humidity values are expected to remain above
40 percent for most of the week, with the exception of Thursday
afternoon, where humidity values in the 25 to 30 percent range are
possible across northwest Nebraska into Cherry County.
As for winds, stronger southerly gusts develop Thursday night
into early Friday morning across northern Nebraska, and picking up
east of Highway 83 shortly after sunrise. Gusts on Friday
afternoon are expected to be in the 25 to 30 mph range, but will
be overlapping a melting snowpack and humidity values in the 60-70
percent range. Winds sharply shift on Friday night, becoming
northerly, and another round of gusty conditions begin after
midnight, mainly east of Highway 83. Gusts on Saturday are also
expected to remain in the 25 to 30 mph range, and overlapping
minimum humidity values in the 60-70 percent range. Saturday`s
winds are also largely driven by a cold front that will drop
temperatures well below average again, with highs in the teens and
20s this weekend.
