Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
323 AM CDT Fri Oct 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather conditions will linger mainly east of Hwy 83
though conditions will ease late in the day as winds diminish and
humidity continues to increase.

Otherwise critical fire weather conditions are not expected for the
next several days as a nearly stationary front lingers across
central Nebraska with potential for showers with a few
thunderstorms tonight into Saturday. By Saturday morning there is
a 50 to 70 percent chance for 0.25" of rainfall generally in a
southwest to northeast band from roughly Lodgepole and Imperial up
through Valentine and O`Neill. Higher amounts are possible but
will be more localized. There is potential for another round of
showers with a few thunderstorms again Sunday night into Monday
mainly along and east of Hwy 83 with a 25 to 50 percent chance for
another 0.10" of precipitation. While any thunderstorms are not
expected to contain significant amounts of lightning, strikes
outside of precipitation may start new fires. Fire weather
concerns may start to increase again by mid to late next week as
an upper ridge builds over the Rockies with a return to drier
conditions.
