.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns remain limited over the next few days across
much of west central Nebraska.
While temperatures will remain at or above climatological values
for early September, an influx of low-level moisture will offset
this and prevent humidity minimums from reaching critical levels.
The exception to this will be in the immediate vicinity of the
Pine Ridge Saturday where values may manage to fall to around 25
percent. Stronger wind gust are largely expected to remain east of
the lowest humidity thus critical conditions are not expected. Stronger
winds on Sunday may lead to some modest increase in concern for
much of the area but the humidity forecast calls for values in the
30 to 50 percent range for much of the area.
Regarding rainfall potential: Scattered to widespread rain and
thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night should lead to fairly
widespread wetting rains for west central Nebraska. Some
locations could potentially see one inch or greater rainfall.
Early next week, a frontal boundary will settle south into the
area and should serve as the focus for rain and thunderstorm
activity for Monday and Tuesday. Some wetting rains appear
possible but do not appear likely to be widespread. Precipitation
potential will diminish for Wednesday through the following
weekend.
