.DISCUSSION...
Elevated fire weather conditions are possible Monday, mainly for
far northern Zone 204 in vicinity of the Pine Ridge.
A northern stream disturbance will drag an attendant frontal
boundary into the area today. This feature will serve as the focus
for afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Behind this feature however,
will be largely westerly winds which will allow drier air to work
into far northwest Nebraska. Though humidity minimums should
remain above 20 percent, gusts around 20 to 25 mph could lead to
the spread of any fire starts in the area. Increased low-level
moisture in addition to rain and thunderstorm chances should keep
concerns low elsewhere. Rainfall amounts of a couple tenths of an
inch are possible with locally higher amounts closer to a half
inch possible.
Fire concerns decrease towards mid week. Though drier air will
work in on Tuesday and support humidity minimums in the 15 to 25
percent range over the western Sandhills, high pressure moving in
will promote weak winds. Concern begins to creep up by Thursday as
temperatures rebound to above normal levels. Winds should increase
as well with south gusts around 25 to 30 mph with humidity falling
below 30 percent for many locations west of Highway 83 and as low
as the lower teens for the Panhandle. Similar conditions will
exist Friday before more a more unsettled pattern arrives this
weekend and leads to cooling temperatures and greater
precipitation chances.
