.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Issued at 300 AM CDT Sat Aug 23 2025

An upper level low is located over western Ontario, with an upper
level high over the Four Corners region. Northwesterly flow aloft is
observed over western and north central Nebraska. Subtropical
moisture is being advected around the upper high, bringing a plume
of moisture across the Rocky Mountains into the central Plains. At
the surface, a cold front is tracking through the Sandhills this
morning, with high pressure building in behind the front.

This afternoon temperatures climb into the mid to upper 70s.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible late
this afternoon and evening across western and southwestern Nebraska.
Chances for precipitation increase overnight, as a low level jet
sets up over western Kansas. Though severe weather is not
anticipated, may need to keep an eye on heavy rainfall potential
across southwest Nebraska this evening.

Sunday morning and afternoon brings additional chances for showers
and thunderstorms, mostly along and south of Highway 2. With showers
expected throughout the day, skies remain on the cloudy side, which
will help limit high temperatures on Sunday. Highs are expected to
struggle to reach the mid 70s across most of the region. Showers and
thunderstorms are likely to persist overnight again, into early
Monday morning. While severe threat remains low, again will be
keeping a close eye on heavy rainfall potential, especially if
storms begin to train across southwest Nebraska.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

chances for showers and thunderstorms across western and
southwestern Nebraska through the week. In combination with surface
high pressure, temperatures are expected to remain cooler than
average throughout the week. Temperatures are currently expected to
remain around 10 to 15 degrees below average through most of the
week. For reference, normal highs this time of year are around 85 to
87 degrees.
