Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early evening, near and east of Highway 83. - Temperatures will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s today and Thursday, with a strong cold front and much cooler Wednesday. Another strong cold front Thursday night, brings cooler highs in the mid 60s to low 70s Friday, followed by upper 60s to upper 70s Saturday and Sunday. && .SYNOPSIS... Issued at 340 AM CDT Tue Sep 2 2025 Dense fog has developed across Lincoln and Custer County northward across the eastern half of north central Nebraska. Visibilities have fallen to a quarter mile or less. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 am CDT for these areas. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Issued at 340 AM CDT Tue Sep 2 2025 Dense fog will be the main weather concern this morning. The fog should begin to lift after 9 am CDT. heading into this afternoon, a surface trough will bring a warmup, as winds veer to the north and northwest behind the trough. Highs will reach the mid 80s near and west of highway 83, with upper 70s to low 80s to the east. The surface trough will also be a focus for isolated showers or thunderstorms to develop after 3 pm CDT for areas near and east of Highway 83. Northwest flow aloft will bring H85 to H7 lapse rates above 9C/KM and SB capes from 1000-1500 J/KG and deep layer shear from 25-35kts. Not expecting any strong storms however. Tonight, a few lingering showers or storms in the east early evening. A backdoor cold front will move into north central Nebraska after midnight, with a chance for showers and a few thunderstorms in the northeast. Lows will mainly range in the mid 50s. && .LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 340 AM CDT Tue Sep 2 2025 Much cool Wednesday behind the cold front, from only the mid 60s northeast to near 80 far southwest. A chance for showers and a few thunderstorms Wednesday morning in the northeast, within a corridor of stronger mid and upper level winds from a deep closed low dropping into the arrowhead of Minnesota. Northerly winds will become breezy at 15 to 25 mph across the area late morning into the afternoon. The upper trough will deepen across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Thursday, with another trough and cold front dropping into the Dakotas. This will bring another warmup into the upper 70s to mid 80s, along with gusting northwest winds up to 30 mph across the western Sandhills. Elevated fire weather conditions are expected across the west, where afternoon humidity to fall into the upper teens and lower 20s. Friday through Monday, temperatures will mainly range below normal from the mid 60s to low 70s Friday, and the upper 60s to upper 70s Saturday through Monday.
