...JUNE 2026 KICKS OFF ON A WET NOTE...

While most of the Florida Keys experienced abnormally dry to
moderate drought so far this year, June is making up for it. For
some areas, all in one day. Tavernier and parts of the Upper Keys saw
significant rainfall Thursday night, June 4th. Key West, Stock
Island and parts of the Lower Keys saw significant rainfall on
Friday, June 5th. During the Lower Keys rain event, the Key West
International Airport recorded over 3 inches of rain in just 1 hour,
leading to significant flooding around northern and eastern parts of
the island. Rainfall rates of this magnitude are on the order of a
one in ten year event.

Rainfall totals were generally in the range of two to three inches,
though parts of the Lower and Upper Keys saw measured totals of six
to eight inches. Notably, the Middle Keys managed to miss the higher
rainfall totals this time around with most areas picking up just one
to two inches.

The tables below contain rainfall reports from June 1st through 5th
across the Florida Keys, collected from a variety of sources with
varying equipment and exposures. The first table lists the top 5
cumulative rainfall totals for the week across the entire island
chain. Following that table, we break down the reports by Lower,
Middle, and Upper Keys. Not all data listed are considered official.

We thank all volunteer weather observers for their dedication!
