Our recent wet and stormy week of weather was the result of multiple synoptic features that provided an optimal setup for deep convection across the Florida Keys, followed by Major Hurricane Milton passing to our distant northwest. Leading up to Milton, a low pressure in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and a tropical upper-tropospheric trough (TUTT) fueled an environment for moist southerly flow. This brought periods of flooding rains to the island chain. Miltons impacts were mainly in the form of strong winds on the 9th and 10th, though resultant coastal flooding lingered for Bayside portions of the Upper Keys. Rainbands packed a powerful punch as they moved over island communities, delivering wind gusts near 60 mph. The tables below contain rainfall reports from across the Florida Keys, generally spanning October 3rd-10th, 2024. They were collected from a variety of sources with varying equipment and exposures. We thank all volunteer weather observers for their dedication. Note: Not all data listed are considered official.
