405 FXUS62 KKEY 031957 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 357 PM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025 ...New AVIATION, PREV DISCUSSION... .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 352 PM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025 VFR conditions with southeast surface winds of 5 to 10 knots will prevail through the 18Z TAF period. Sky conditions will fluctuate between FEW and SCT near FL025, but sustained periods of flight categories lower than VFR are not expected. Showers and thunderstorms remain out of TAFs due to low probability, near 20 percent, and low confidence as to exactly where any activity will pop up. && .PREV DISCUSSION... Issued at 1111 AM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025 Even though GOES-19 visibile satellite imagery shows scattered clouds across the area, an overlay of both our KBYX radar and WFO Miami`s KAMX radar confirms that almost none of the towering cumulus clouds are producing rainfall. This is likely due to a layer of drier air in the lower to mid levels as seen on our 12Z sounding from this morning. These building cumulus clouds hit that drier air, and simply fizzle out. The past two days have looked very similar though, and we did end up seeing isolated thunderstorms both days, so we aren`t turning our backs on anything that pops up on radar. With high pressure in place, and a very similar set up as yesterday, no changes or updates are needed at this time. Fairly moist flow will support heat indices near 100F, and higher, but some drifting clouds may take the edge off of the heat. Enjoy the end of the weekend! && .MARINE... From synopsis, a weak Atlantic surface ridge will remain nosed over South Florida for the next few days promoting generally light east to southeasterly breezes. Shifts to this feature`s position through the forecast period will result in some days having fresher breezes than others.
