Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Kentucky
National Weather Service Jackson KY
502 AM EDT Fri Oct 17 2025

.DISCUSSION....High pressure will move across the region today,
shifting east of the Commonwealth tonight and Saturday. This will
allow a couple of upper level disturbances to cross the region
over the weekend, with a cold front approaching eastern KY late
Saturday night. This front will cross the area on Sunday.
Moderating temperatures and a seasonably dry airmass will allow for
humidity to drop to near or below 30 percent this afternoon for
much of the region. A return flow of moisture will occur as the
high departs to begin the weekend as the cold front approaches.
This front should bring a wetting rainfall to the area this
weekend, with the lighter occurring over the Hazard and Pineville
branches of the KDF and the Redbird RD in the DBNF. Any
thunderstorms near or in advance of the front could produce strong
wind gusts and strong wind gusts are also anticipated outside of
storms as the front moves across the Commonwealth. Surface high
pressure and dry weather return to the area for Monday.
