.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 117 AM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025

A very extensive surface ridge of high pressure was over the
northeast quarter of the country. Light winds and a few clouds
were over the forecast area as part of this system. Some areas
of light smoke and fog were on the fringe of the forecast area
which is also on northwest section of the surface high pressure
area from Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan. There was a hint of
smoke aloft earlier tonight as the moon was setting. Surface
smoke is not expected at this time across any part of the
forecast area. Any patchy light fog will mix out rapidly this
morning.

An anomalously strong upper level ridge over the southwest CONUS
will build northeast into the Midwest and Ohio River Valley regions.
The expansion of this upper level ridge northeast will bring much
warmer temperatures with highs reaching the upper 80s by Sunday. 500
mb heights north of Lake Superior will increase around 200 meters by
late Tuesday. The CPC 6-10 day outlook indicates a 70% chance for
temperatures being above normal. The outlook with matches well
with these large temperature anomalies.

BUFKIT soundings appear too dry in the lower and mid levels to
support thunderstorms through Monday. After Monday, very low and
highly diurnal storm coverage is expected with storms forming
almost exclusively in the 19Z to 01Z window (3pm EDT to 9pm
EDT). Tall but thin CAPE with weak flow and very limited shear
should prevent storms from becoming severe.

VFR this period and beyond as sfc ridging dominates across the
Great Lakes. More concerntrated low level smoke should hold
west/north of the terminals and keep any potential MVFR based
vis restriction at bay this period.
