124 FNUS53 KILX 110849 FWFILX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois National Weather Service Lincoln IL 349 AM CDT Tue Mar 11 2025 .DISCUSSION... A weak cold front was approaching central IL early Tues morning, and this front is expected to result in a wind shift from southwesterly to north-northeasterly in areas north of I-72. An additional surge of lake-cooled air from Lake Michigan will push in during the late afternoon/early evening, reaching the I-74 corridor first and shifting winds to northeasterly. This surge will continue southwest in time, reaching portions of the I-72 corridor closer to or just after sunset. Mixing heights will be deep ahead of the lake-cooled air, but diminished within the colder air. Ventilation will only be poor to fair today, owing to weak transport winds, particularly between I-72 and I-70, where the initial front is expected to stall this afternoon (resulting in light/variable winds). No precipitation is expected today. Above normal temperatures continue through the work week, peaking on Friday with highs in the upper 70s. Friday will also feature breezy southeasterly winds gusting 30 to 40 mph.
