Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
333 AM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Expect the wind direction to be variable today as a cold front
moves from south to north across the region. Areas south of I-72
may see southwesterly winds to start the morning, then winds will
shift to north-northwesterly as the front passes. Areas north of
I-72 are more likely to see northwesterly winds through the day.
Winds will be light (less than 10 mph), resulting in poor
ventilation. Tomorrow, light north-northeasterly winds are
expected area-wide.

Hot and humid conditions continue today, especially south of I-70
where afternoon heat indices could climb as high as 105 degrees.
After today, temperatures will return to near normal for the rest
of the work week, with minimal precipitation chances until another
cold front moves through over the weekend.
