Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
226 PM CDT Fri Oct 4 2024

.DISCUSSION...

A storm system is forecast to pass to the north Saturday night
into Sunday. Ahead of it, surface pressure gradients will tighten
leading to increasing winds veering from southeasterly to
southerly late Saturday morning through the afternoon when gusts
to 25 to 30 mph are expected. A cold front will then cross the
area from northwest to southeast late tomorrow night into Sunday
morning, changing the wind direction to northwesterly for Sunday
when afternoon winds will gust to around 25 mph. Given lack of
cloud cover each day, vent rates will be good to excellent. Due to
the much drier airmass behind the cold front on Sunday, with
dewpoints perhaps dropping into the 20s, afternoon RH values are
slated to fall to 20 to 25 percent leading to elevated fire
weather conditions.
